Dr. Hernandez nacio en la Habana, Cuba en 1952, y inmigrio con su familia a los Estados Unidos en 1961. Ha vivido en Los Angeles desde 1964 y graduo de Hollywood HighSchool en 1970. Recivio su "Bachelors Degree" en Ciencia en la Universida de UCLA in 1974, graduando "Summa Cum Laude" y elegido miembro de "Phi Beta Kappa". Graduo de la Escuela de Medicina en UCLA en 1978, y completo un aņo de medicina interna en Long Beach Veteran's Hospital 1978-1979.
Completo su residencia de Dermatologia en el "UCLA-Wadsworth V.A. Dermatology Training Program" en 1982. Fue el residente principal del programa en 1981-1982. Dr. Hernandez ha estado en practica privada el la area de Boyle Heights en Los Angeles desde el 1982. Con el titulo de "Assistant Clinical Profesor of Medicine" en la escuela de Medicina de UCLA, ha sido maestro el el hospital de Wadsworth Veterans Hospital desde el 1982.
